West Ham United could turn to Dominic Solanke as Michail Antonio transfer update shared

West Ham could move for Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke as a replacement for Michail Antonio, according to talkSPORT.

Alex Crook reported for the radio station’s website on Tuesday (30 April) that Antonio has previously been linked with Saudi Arabian clubs.

Antonio is due to be out of contract at the end of the season, although the club do have the option to extend that by a further 12 months.

Crook said: “Antonio’s contract expires at the end of the season and it is not guaranteed the club take up the option to extend by a further year as they look to bring in a younger striker such as Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke.

“The Jamaican international has previously been a target for the Saudi Pro League.”

Dominic Solanke move makes sense for West Ham

West Ham undoubtedly need to prioritise bringing in a prolific forward this summer, and Solanke would very much tick plenty of boxes.

Antonio has been a great servant for the club, but there is a sense around London Stadium that the time is right for a change.

That said, the 34-year-old is far from over the hill and, from a selfish point of view, United should retain him as a back-up striker.

Antonio is one of a few players set to become free agents in the next six weeks or so, adding to the sense of uncertainty around the club.

Even if David Moyes’ future is up in the air, the club will surely already have a few targets lined up to move for when the window opens.

If Solanke is attainable for a realistic fee, there will surely not be many West Ham fans who will be against the club prioritising that deal.

After all, those 18 goals he brings – the tally he has already reached in the Premier League this term – could make all the difference.

In other West Ham news, Ian Abrahams has hailed two “brilliant” players away from Solanke the Irons could bring in this summer.
