West Ham United transfers: ‘Impossible’ for Genoa to reject Albert Gudmundsson bids this summer

West Ham United want to sign Genoa sensation Albert Gudmundsson in the summer transfer window, with the Serie A club expected to sell according to Gazzetta.

Writing on their website (14 February), the Italian news outlet report that the Icelandic midfielder is attracting the interest of several clubs such as Juventus, Newcastle, Tottenham and the Hammers ahead of the summer.

And after they rejected a bid from Fiorentina during the January window, while there were reports of a bid from West Ham too, the expectation is that if he continues to perform this season they will find it “impossible” to reject offers again once the season ends.

“During the winter transfer window, Genoa resisted Fiorentina’s offer and did not let Albert Gudmundsson leave,” they wrote.

“Next summer, however, the ending of the story will be different because the Icelandic born in 1997 is followed by Juventus, appreciated by Inter and in the sights of English clubs such as Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham.

“And if he has the same performance as the first part of the season, keeping him will be impossible for the Grifone.”

West Ham planning for Lucas Paqueta’s exit?

Is this possibly the Hammers preparing for the potential exit of their Brazilian superstar Lucas Paqueta this summer?

Paqueta was a target for Manchester City last summer only for an FA charge about gambling bringing an end to the deal, but it also emerged that the player has an £85m release clause that will become active during the next transfer window.

That means that the Hammers could potentially become powerless in any negotiations for him, and the right thing to do is to plan for potential replacements just in case.

Lucas Paqueta has been vital for West Ham United since his arrival

Gudmundsson has scored 11 goals and registered two assists in 22 appearances this season for Genoa and operates primarily as a number ten, which would make him a great direct replacement.

Making moves now is the way to get ahead of the big-boys when it comes to securing these deals, so Tim Steidten is clearly alert to the market and ready to do what he does best if he is called into action.
