West Ham United transfers: BBC reporter shares hope as medical now booked in
BBC reporter Simon Stone is hopeful Evan Ferguson can get his Premier League career back on track as a loan move from Brighton to West Ham United nears.
Ferguson is due to undergo a medical with West Ham on Sunday (2 February), with the Hammers agreeing to cover 100 per cent of his wages until the end of the campaign [Alex Crook, 2 February].
Ferguson’s career has stagnated of late due to injury problems, but it is considered a coup of sorts for the Irons under the noses of a fellow London club.
Reacting to the latest development on his personal X account [2 February], Stone said: “Hope this works out for Evan Ferguson.”
Evan Ferguson can be a West Ham United success
Ferguson looked like being a major talent not so long ago, but he has not quite lived up to his potential and a temporary Brighton exit looks a wise choice.
West Ham need a striker and in Ferguson they have a player who is hungry to succeed and who has proved he is capable of finding the net at this level.
The key for Ferguson will be staying fit, getting regular minutes under his belt and – arguably most important of all – feeling the love from Graham Potter and supporters.
That works both ways, of course. If Ferguson hits the ground running, he will have the fans singing his name from day one.
There is still hope that David Sullivan will sanction a higher-profile deal before the window closes, but bringing in Ferguson is at least a start.
The hope is that there will be no funny business that blocks this deal going through, though everything points towards this one being wrapped up potentially before the weekend is over.
In other West Ham news, a bid has been submitted for another striker at another British club.
