West Ham United transfer update shared on Euro 2024 sensation Georges Mikautadze

West Ham are yet to make a bid for Georges Mikautadze despite his performances for Georgia at Euro 2024 emulating Kylian Mbappe, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Mirror reported on 28 June that contrary to previous speculation, there has been no bid made by the Hammers for the Metz forward, with fellow Ligue 1 sides Monaco and Lens instead leading the race.

Mikautadze is currently the top scorer at Euro 2024 with three goals, the most recent coming in a shock 2-0 victory over 2016 winners Portugal, and the striker has earned high praise for his performances.

Back in April, Metz manager Laszlo Boloni compared the striker to a certain Kylian Mbappe, saying in quotes reported by French Football News; “when you have a goalscorer, it’s the most joyous thing.

“Mikautadze isn’t Kylian Mbappe, but he’s FC Metz’s Mbappe!”

West Ham must step up Georges Mikautadze transfer pursuit

Despite prior reports suggesting that the Hammers are indeed ready to table a bid for Mikautadze, the fact is that they are yet to do so, and the longer they wait, the longer the Irons are losing ground [Alexis Bernard, 28 June].

Having shown he can perform on the biggest of stages – his three goals have helped fire the lowest-ranked side at Euro 2024 into the last 16 – Mikautadze looks ready to make another step up in quality.

Monaco and Lens would indeed be steps up from a Metz side relegated in the play-offs, Mikautadze’s 13 goals have proven he’s a more than capable finisher at Ligue 1 level.

Therefore, while both sides have European football to play next season, the greater challenge for Mikautadze would be to test himself further by leading the line in a Premier League side.

If the Georgian shares that sentiment, the onus is on the Hammers to strike while the iron is hot. Mikautadze could be the striker who perfectly fits Julen Lopetegui’s new-look side, and it’s now up to the London Stadium hierarchy to seal the deal [O Jogo, 8 June].
