West Ham United transfer update on Reiss Nelson after new Arsenal developments
Arsenal attacker Reiss Nelson is not yet close to a West Ham United move, according to Charles Watts.
The journalist shared the latest in his Daily Briefing for Caught Offside (30 July) after the winger was taken on Arsenal’s pre-season tour in the USA.
It is said that his outings for the Gunners show that neither West Ham nor Leicester have come close to meeting any demands for the winger.
Watts said: “Leicester are understood to have enquired about the winger, but West Ham are still there and I certainly wouldn’t rule them out as Nelson’s next destination.
“But as it stands, I don’t think anything is imminent. Although of course that can change at any point, should someone come in with an offer that Arsenal find acceptable.
“The fact Nelson is playing over in the USA shows, however, that no one has come close to meeting Arsenal’s demands for Nelson.”
West Ham need to act fast to sign Reiss Nelson
It feels a bit like deja vu seeing West Ham and Leicester both eyeing a transfer for the same winger.
The Premier League duo were locked in a three-way battle with Serie A side Roma for Matias Soule [Gazzetta dello Sport, 24 July, page 16] earlier in the window.
Soule eventually chose to stay in Italy and ply his trade for Roma which has resulted in both the Hammers and the Foxes looking elsewhere for reinforcement.
Julen Lopetegui has already added Luis Guilherme to his ranks to help offer support for the Hammers’ attack next season.

But, there’s no denying that the addition of Nelson would improve their overall team tenfold and would help alleviate even more pressure from the shoulders of Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus.
The winger has been left on the outskirts of Mikel Arteta’s team for the last couple of seasons so it’s no surprise that he’s seeking pastures new.
Although nothing is yet set in stone, this will certainly be one to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are readying an official offer for a Brazilian striker.
