West Ham United transfer update emerges as talks underway for three signings

West Ham United are still vying for the transfers of Jean-Clair Todibo, Max Kilman and Jake O’Brien, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The journalist took to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre blog [3 July] admitting that Julen Lopetegui is still deciding on potential new bids for Nice star Todibo and Wolves captain Kilman.

With the Hammers also still in talks over Lyon defender, O’Brien, it is said that Tim Steidten could sign two new options at the back.

Why West Ham United have multiple centre-back targets this summer

Although David Moyes managed to carry the London-based club to a ninth-placed finish in the Premier League last season, there’s no doubt that Lopetegui will want to improve their standing next season.

West Ham’s defence was nowhere near good enough last season, as Angelo Ogbonna leaves and the future of Nayef Aguerd is still up in the air [GiveMeSport, 12 June].

Without the added players, Lopetegui’s men will likely fall further down the table and fail to qualify for Europe once again.

Although it may seem like West Ham don’t know which direction to go in regarding their targets, the fact that things can change in an instant during the transfer market needs to be taken into account.

And, especially if Aguerd leaves this summer, one addition wouldn’t quite cut it as that would still leave the club with just Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos and, at a push, Aaron Cresswell.

Kilman is the most wanted choice of the three by Lopetegui [GiveMeSport, 1 July] as he has prior experience with the Englishman whilst he managed Wolves.

Two natural centre-backs evidently wouldn’t be enough to power through a full season, hence the need for at least two additions.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers could enter a bidding war with Atletico Madrid for a transfer target this summer.
