West Ham United transfer update emerges amid links to Celtic star Cameron Carter-Vickers
West Ham are not pursuing a move to sign Celtic star Cameron Carter-Vickers this summer, according to Football Scotland.
The outlet reported on their website on 18 June that the Hammers won’t be signing the American defender despite claims to the contrary, and neither will another linked team in promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town.
Julen Lopetegui is said to have registered no interest in the Hoops centre-back as he takes over from David Moyes at the London Stadium this summer.
HITC had reported on 17 June that West Ham and Ipswich were both interested in a move for the 26-year-old centre-back, along with Fulham.
West Ham and Ipswich ruled out of Scottish champion transfer
It wouldn’t have been a huge surprise if the Irons were interested in signing the former Tottenham man, since an overhaul of the defence is an obvious priority this summer.
Angelo Ogbonna has left after nine years as his contract expired, and regular starters Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd could both leave [The Times, 28 May] following a campaign where Moyes’ defence conceded more goals than everyone but the relegated sides (74) in the Premier League.
Carter-Vickers has been key to both Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers while winning the Scottish Premiership in every season he has spent in Scotland.
Moyes’ history at Parkhead might have made links to their current defensive leader more logical, but apparently Lopetegui, and presumably Tim Steidten, are looking to go in a different direction.

The difference between the Scottish Premiership and the English Premier League might be a valid question, although former Celtic man Virgil van Dijk has probably disproved that point since moving south to Southampton and then Liverpool.
A move for Fabricio Bruno has already collapsed but a move for Bayer Leverkusen’s Odilon Kossounou could be available, although it seems Carter-Vickers arriving at the London Stadium won’t be on the cards.
