West Ham United transfer update drops in Lucas Paqueta to Manchester City development

Lucas Paqueta has agreed personal terms with Manchester City ahead of a potential summer transfer from West Ham United, according to Santi Aouna.

The Foot Mercato journalist reported on 19 May that the Brazilian is keen to join the newly crowned Premier League champions.

It also states that talks are set to be held with the West Ham board in the coming weeks to try and get a deal over the line this summer.

Will Lucas Paqueta leave West Ham United this summer?

All signs appear to point to an imminent departure for Paqueta from the London Stadium this summer.

In truth, the Hammers may count themselves lucky to have retained his technical talents for the 2023/24 season, given City expressed firm interest in acquiring his services last summer, only to back off after betting allegations were made against him.

Assuming he is exonerated of those allegations, City appear primed to make the move they had readied the summer before.

Paqueta’s creative qualities and close control will be missed, of course – but if the Hammers can generate £85m for a player who has contributed just four goals and six assists in 31 Premier League appearances this term, perhaps it will be a move that suits all parties.

With Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen still in the side, incoming head coach Julen Lopetegui should still have plenty of firepower to work with in 2024/25.

In other West Ham news, Ian Wright has called out James Ward-Prowse in the Hammers’ loss against City.
