West Ham United transfer update as Nottingham Forest progress in James Ward-Prowse deal

Nottingham Forest have progressed in talks with West Ham over the deal to sign James Ward-Prowse, according to Simon Collings.

The Evening Standard journalist reported on 30 August that along with Ward-Prowse, Maxwel Cornet could also be on his way out on deadline day.

The Hammers are also aiming to finalise a deal to bring PSG midfielder Carlos Soler to the club.

Via X, Collings wrote: “West Ham are progressing in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a loan deal for midfielder Carlos Soler.

“Crystal Palace & Southampton both in for Maxwel Cornet.”

West Ham United set for a frantic transfer deadline day

The potential departures of Cornet and Ward-Prowse, coupled with the interest in Soler, align with the strategic vision of Julen Lopetegui.

Cornet’s versatility has been valuable, but his departure could be seen as making room for a more defined role player, especially if Lopetegui seeks to implement a specific tactical system.

Ward-Prowse, despite his set-piece expertise, might not fit into Lopetegui’s dynamic midfield setup, which could require more fluidity and a different style of play.

Introducing Soler, known for his technical ability, vision and capacity to dictate play, would embody the style Lopetegui aims to instil at the London Stadium.

His profile as a midfielder who can both create and contribute defensively could be pivotal in transitioning West Ham’s midfield into a more possession-based, tactically flexible unit, better suited to Lopetegui’s philosophy.

This transfer activity suggests a squad overhaul towards a more cohesive playing style under Lopetegui.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have offered a contract to sign an Argentina attacker as talks are ongoing with his club over a deadline day transfer.
