West Ham United transfer stance on Federico Chiesa emerges as contract demands shared

West Ham United are stepping back from their pursuit of Juventus forward Federico Chiesa amid competition from Chelsea and Tottenham, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report in the newspaper’s print edition (30 July, page 31) suggests that Chiesa’s demands of €5million (£4.2m) per year plus bonuses is behind West Ham backing off from a deal for the Italy international.

It comes following previous news that the 26-year-old could be in the mix when it came to West Ham’s plans before the 30 August deadline (Edoardo Mecca, 16 July).

West Ham stick to their guns on Federico Chiesa

It’s been clear for all to see that West Ham are making moves in the summer transfer market.

New manager Julen Lopetegui has certainly been focusing a lot of his attention on bringing through defensive reinforcements, but Luis Guilherme has already been brought in to bolster the attack, while the likes of Jhon Duran and Alexander Sorloth have been linked with a move as improvements cross the board are sought.

Additionally, there are already rumblings that Yuri Alberto could be making his way over to the capital (Graeme Bailey, 29 July). While the core contingent of the Hammers’ squad looks set to remain at the club, it certainly can’t hurt to bolster their attacking options to supplement the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus.

This is a movement generated by a manager who wants to make a genuine impact in the Premier League. While it may not be Chiesa who comes through the door, Lopetegui isn’t about to fall into the same trap he did at Wolves.

In other West Ham news, Reiss Nelson is set to make a call on his Arsenal future amid links with a summer move to the London Stadium.
