West Ham United transfer offer emerges as Tammy Abraham makes Roma exit call
West Ham United had offered a fee in the region of £25.8million to try and sign Roma striker Tammy Abraham, according to Calcio Mercato.
The Italian outlet reported on its website on Monday (5 August) that while the Hammers submitted a big-money offer, the England international’s preference is understood to be a move to the San Siro with AC Milan.
Milan would offer the forward the opportunity to play in the Champions League this season alongside former Chelsea teammate and close friend Fikayo Tomori who has impressed during his time in Italy.
Reports had suggested Abraham had rejected the advances of both the Hammers and Premier League rivals Everton this summer, with his heart set on remaining in Italy instead [Corriere Della Sera, 1 August, page nine].
Will Tammy Abraham exit Roma amid West Ham transfer rumours?
The Hammers have seemingly moved on from their pursuit of Abraham as Julen Lopetegui’s side close in on the signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug who is set to become the newest addition at the London Stadium [Dharmesh Sheth, 4 August].
Tim Steidten and Lopetegui have looked far and wide for a new number nine ahead of the new campaign as they look to address the striker problem that plagued David Moyes for so much of his tenure in East London.
Both Abraham and Fullkrug would have likely been able to do a good job at the top end of the field, but the Englishman’s recent injury record would have been a cause for concern had the Irons’ bid been accepted.

Whether or not West Ham have ended up with the better option, only time will tell. But the most important thing is that Lopetegui has been backed by the board to make his own additions in his first window in charge.
Hopefully, they all work out as expected and the Hammers can hit the ground running when the Premier League gets back underway.
