West Ham United transfer news: Thilo Kehrer arrives in Monaco for medical with permanent transfer agreed

Thilo Kehrer has arrived in Monaco to undergo a medical ahead of a permanent exit away from West Ham United, according to Fabrice Hawkins.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (4 January), the L’Equipe journalist reports that the defender has arrived in France and is set to undergo his medical today.

Kehrer will leave on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy worth £9.4m agreed between the clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

“Thilo Kehrer has arrived in Monaco to undergo his medical examination,” he wrote.

“Loan and purchase option worth €10m (£9.4m).”

Au revoir

It’s been a fun 18 months of having Kehrer at West Ham, but there is no doubt that this is the right time for all parties for this deal to happen.

Kehrer was a key part of the squad that won the Europa Conference League last season filling in cross the back four over the course of the campaign, but this season he has struggled for any meaningful minutes.

West Ham

Vladimir Coufal is way ahead of him in the pecking order at right-back with Ben Johnson his understudy while Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, Dinos Mavropanos and Angelo Ogbonna are all ahead of him at centre-back.

Monaco are offering him a way to get regular playing time for the rest of this season ahead of Euro 2024 for this summer before a chance at regular minutes next season too, while West Ham earn some cash in the process.

It makes sense for everyone at this point and gives the Hammers the entire window to search for a replacement if they need one.
