Said Benrahma now minutes away from jetting out of UK to seal West Ham United exit on Deadline Day

Said Benrahma will fly out to France to complete a move from West Ham to Lyon “in the next few minutes”, according to Santi Aouna.

The Foot Mercato journalist shared an update on the complicated transfer situation on his personal Twitter page on Thursday (1 February).

There have been contrasting reports regarding whether a deal would still go through on Deadline Day, but Benrahma is now jetting out to France.

“Said Benrahma will leave West Ham and fly to Lyon in the next few minutes,” Aouna’s tweet read.

Wait and see

Benrahma’s future is clearly going to be the story of Deadline Day from West Ham’s perspective.

At one point it looked a certainty this deal would go through, then it was off all of a sudden and now seemingly back on.

The question marks seem to centre around a contractual issue, which all three parties need to work on resolving as soon as possible.

West Ham fans will surely question why Benrahma – a squad player at best, admittedly – is being allowed to leave with no incomings planned.

Benrahma may not exactly be a key player under David Moyes, but he does at least provide the Scotsman with another option in attack.

It may not matter, though, as time is fast ticking down for this transfer to get over the line prior to the 10pm deadline in France.

The real disappointment in this whole saga is that West Ham have been unable to complete a deal of their own for an attacking replacement.

In other West Ham news, Fabrizio Romano says a key figure at London Stadium would be an “excellent option” for a rival club.
