West Ham United transfer news: Pablo Fornals loan update shared amid Real Betis interest

Pablo Fornals has options to leave West Ham United on loan this month, including from Real Betis, according to ABC de Sevilla.

The Spanish outlet reported on Tuesday (23 January) that Manuel Pellegrini is eager to reunite with Fornals at Estadio Benito Villamarin.

While Betis would like to bring in the Spain international – a £24million signing from Villarreal in 2019 [BBC Sport] – they must first offload players.

The report adds that Betis chiefs will do everything in their power to sign Fornals this month as they are wary of other competition.

No sense in a loan deal

Speculation regarding Fornals’ future appears to be growing as we approach the February 1 deadline.

Whether or not that is a coincidence is up for debate, but Fornals would no doubt welcome a move to somewhere he can play regularly.

The Spaniard has started the Irons’ past couple of Premier League matches, but that is down to Mohammed Kudus and others being absent.

Fornals has made over 200 appearances for United, though there is a real sense that his time at London Stadium is coming to an end.

West Ham

The club recently triggered a 12-month extension in his contract, meaning he is tied down until the end of next season.

Still, a loan departure this month makes absolutely no sense on the face of it, especially when David Moyes could do with cover.

If a European club such as Betis steps forward with an offer, though, then it may well be that we have seen the last of the 27-year-old.
