West Ham United could sell six players in January to raise funds, Pablo Fornals to Sevilla a possibility
West Ham could sell as many as six players in the January transfer window to raise funds to bring in another player, according to Claret & Hugh.
Hughie Southon reported on Thursday (19 October) that the Hammers could bring in as much as £25million through offloading the deadwood.
It is claimed that the Hammers are looking to land £10m alone from the sale of Pablo Fornals to Sevilla, despite his contract expiring at the end of the season.
Ben Johnson is a target for Everton and Luton Town, with his valuation in the region of £6m, while Conor Coventry could raise up to £3m.
Southon adds that Aaron Cresswell and Angelo Ogbonna could raise £5m between them, while Maxwell Cornet is the other up for sale.
Time to go again
It recently emerged that West Ham have no funds to strengthen their squad midway through the season after spending big in the summer.
The sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal ensured West Ham hardly broke the bank, but the club do not want to outspend their means.
That means raising money through player sales which, on the face of it, makes perfect sense.
However, it seems fanciful to expect an eight-figure sum for Fornals, who can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January ahead of a free transfer.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, losing fellow full internationals Cresswell and Ogbonna for such small fees would be disappointing.
Still, if United can bring in a player capable of challenging for a starting spot, while at the same time getting rid of fringe players, that would be ideal.
It may only seem like yesterday the summer transfer window closed, yet already the wheels are in motion ahead of the January one opening.
