Liverpool and Manchester City monitoring West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd

Liverpool and Manchester City are both monitoring West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd, according to The Sun.

The publication’s online edition reported on Sunday [10 September] that the Premier League heavyweights are keeping an eye on Aguerd with a view to making a future move.

Aguerd, who has made 33 appearances for West Ham since joining from Rennes in June 2022, still has four years to run on his London Stadium contract.

West Ham

Interest

Aguerd remains a West Ham player despite strong links with a move to Al-Ittihad prior to last week’s transfer deadline for Saudi Arabian clubs.

The Morocco international was said to be offered 10 times his current salary to make the switch to the Middle East [Goal].

United had every right to be worried at that point given the ridiculous sums on offer in that part of the world, but Aguerd stayed put in East London.

There is a fear Al-Ittihad – or another interested Saudi club – could make a fresh approach next year, but that is something to worry about when the time arrives.

West Ham United

As for the interest from Liverpool and City, it is clear to see why the pair like the look of Aguerd, but it would take a massive bid to tempt United to cash in.

Aguerd is a huge part of David Moyes’ plans and West Ham are not exactly in a position where they need to sell assets.

The speculation could be a distraction for the Moroccan if it rumbles into January, but hopefully the 27-year-old will focus on maintaining his high level of performances for United and nothing comes of this supposed interest from elsewhere.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers appear to have made their Moyes sack stance clear with an announcement that has been made.
