David Moyes top January transfer priority shared as West Ham United target Montpellier ace Akor Adams

West Ham are keeping a close eye on Montpellier ace Akor Adams ahead of the January transfer window, according to Alan Nixon.

In an update for the online edition of The Sun [16 December], Nixon shared that the Irons are prioritising the signing of a striker next month.

Adams has scored seven goals in 15 Ligue 1 games for Montpellier this season, having only arrived from Norwegian side Lillestrom in August.

Prolific

It is no secret that David Moyes could do with a goalscoring centre-forward as he is currently relying on Jarrod Bowen, who is nominally a wide player.

Michail Antonio is out injured and is not a viable long-term option anyway, while Moyes just simply does not fancy Danny Ings or the unproven Divin Mubama.

Adams was prolific in Norwegian football, scoring 15 goals in 15 games for Lillestrom this year prior to his move to Montpellier, where he is netting pretty much once every other game.

As a tall and powerful centre-forward, he could be exactly what Moyes needs to truly unlock United’s attacking potential, with Mohammed Kudus, Bowen and Lucas Paqueta playing just off Adams.

The elephant in the room, of course, is the amount of money Montpellier would be expecting in return.

They took a punt on Adams in August and would want to make a large profit given the 23-year-old is clearly on his way up.

If funds do become available for Moyes to spend, it makes sense to target someone in Adams’ mould to help take the Irons to the next level.

In other West Ham news, a Sky Sports reporter has shared a “very welcome” January development at London Stadium.
