West Ham United move for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire dependent on player exits
West Ham will only pursue their fresh approach for Manchester United defender Harry Maguire if other players first depart the London Stadium, according to 90min journalist Toby Cudworth.
The Hammers have re-opened talks with United over a possible deal for Maguire [Alan Nixon], despite the England international turning down their approach earlier in the window.
However, any move for Maguire may be dependent on other factors.
In an update on his Twitter page on Sunday [27 August], 90min journalist Cudworth said: “Any push for Maguire may depend on players moving on.”
Difficult to see
West Ham are reported to have had a £30m bid accepted for Maguire earlier this month, only for the centre-back to opt to stay at Old Trafford [ESPN].
That was reportedly down to a number of factors, although they all largely centred around the size of the pay-off Maguire was after for leaving United.
Assuming the Red Devils are still happy with West Ham’s previous bid – and there is no reason they shouldn’t be given Maguire’s lack of action this season – it would then be a case of the Englishman agreeing terms with his current club as well as his potential future employers.

It makes sense that a player – or more likely a centre-back – would have to make way if Maguire is to join, though, as Konstantinos Mavropanos recently signed to join Kurt Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna and Nayef Aguerd in the West Ham squad.
A possible loan deal for Maguire has been touted, but either way it is difficult to see how all the pieces will fall into place with just five days to go until the window closes.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are reportedly expected to announce another signing on Sunday [27 August].
