West Ham United transfer news: Gianluca Scamacca to jet out of UK on Saturday morning to join Atalanta in £25m deal

Gianluca Scamacca is set to fly to Italy on Saturday morning after West Ham and Atalanta agreed a deal worth £25m including add-ons, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (4 August), the Sky Sports Italia journalist reports that a deal worth £21.6m plus £4.3m in easily achievable add-ons was agreed for the Italy international striker.

Scamacca will earn around £53,000 per-week in Bergamo, leaving West Ham without their first-choice striker just a week before the new season begins.

“Gianluca Scamacca will join Atalanta from West Ham,” he wrote.

“He will fly on Saturday morning. €25m (£21.6m) up front + €5m (£4.3m) in easily reachable add-ons. Scamacca will earn around €3.2m (£2.7m) per year.”

Crazy

It’s crazy that it has come to this, but West Ham won’t care where he goes if they’re getting their money back despite it being a shame.

Scamacca came with great hype after a great 2021/22 season in Serie A and was supposed to be the future of our front line for years to come.

West Ham

But injuries and bad form saw him restricted and now he wants to head home, which means we’re in a tough position because keeping someone who doesn’t want to be here almost never ends well.

He looked set for Roma, and then Inter, but he’s now accepted a bigger financial offer from Atalanta which could potentially show where his priorities lie and that means we never really had a chance.

We got our money though and now we have a week to find a real replacement ahead of the new season, otherwise we could be in for a long, hard season in the goals department.
