Juventus winger Filip Kostic open to joining West Ham

Juventus winger Filip Kostic is open to joining West Ham before the transfer window closes, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian outlet reported on its website Thursday [31 August] that West Ham are the clear frontrunners for the Serbia international, who’s “given the OK to the transfer”.

However, it is claimed that United may have to sell a player first if they are to launch a bid for Kostic ahead of the 11pm deadline on 1 September.

Strength in depth

West Ham missed out on signing Kostic 12 months ago when he instead opted to Juve from Eintracht Frankfurt in a reported €16million deal.

Despite assisting eight goals and scoring three more in 37 Serie A appearances last season, Juve appear ready to cash in on the 30-year-old.

West Ham already have options out on the left-hand side, but Kostic will provide some squad depth and potentially allow others to shift into a central position, where David Moyes has fewer options.

Moyes is clearly a big fan of the former Hamburg player, but the Irons must act quickly if they are to finalise a deal before the window shuts.

This is not exactly a transfer Hammers fans have been crying out for, yet Moyes has showed numerous times that his judgement should be trusted.

If Kostic can be signed for a reasonable fee – or perhaps even on an initial loan – then it will only make United’s squad even stronger.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have reportedly matched Liverpool’s offer for one of their targets.
