Dean Jones shares update on West Ham United interest in Stuttgart forward Serhou Guirassy

Dean Jones says West Ham are possibly open to signing Serhou Guirassy in January, but Stuttgart are “trying to do all they can” to tie the striker down to a new deal.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on Saturday (18 November), former Eurosport reporter Jones also stated that the reported £15million release clause in Guirassy’s contract may not exist come the new year.

The Guinea international has been in sensational form for Stuttgart this campaign, having scored 15 goals in just nine Bundesliga appearances.

Jones said: “West Ham are trying to figure out exactly what they go for in this market. France and Germany are definitely two places they’re looking at the moment.

“Guirassy, potential there. But I think the problem with Guirassy is that at the moment, there’s that clause of £15m. That might not exist by the time we actually get to that window.

“I know that Stuttgart are trying to do all they can to talk him into a new contract that would remove that clause. So we’ll have to wait and see whether that still exists. But yeah, a big time ahead for West Ham to try and find some new cutting edge up front.”

No-brainer

Any team in world football right now will surely be interested in signing a player of Guirassy’s talents.

Indeed, as per FBref, the 27-year-old is in the top 1% of all forwards across Europe’s top five leagues for non-penalty goals scored over the past year.

If he is indeed available for £15m, the bigger question is surely not whether West Ham are interested, but if they can see off competition from numerous other clubs?

Signing a striker has to be the priority for West Ham in the January window, and if there is any sort of chance that Guirassy is gettable, this is a transfer that ticks every single box.

If Stuttgart can persuade him to agree fresh terms, however, that will change things as they could then potentially demand a good five times more come the summer window.

Until that pen touches the paper, West Ham and others have hope of landing the prolific forward.

In other West Ham news, a first-team regular has sustained an injury while away on international duty.
