West Ham United transfer news as Scott McTominay update emerges

Manchester United’s plans to sell Scott McTominay may have been complicated due to the injury of Mason Mount, amid interest from West Ham, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper shared via its website on 23 August that Mount will miss the next four to six weeks after picking up an injury, leaving Manchester United light in midfield, which could affect McTominay’s place in the side.

Although West Ham’s interest in McTominay has cooled since they had a £30million bid rejected, and the club brought in James Ward-Prowse from Southampton, Manchester United may have been open to accepting a knock-down fee.

West Ham will assess other targets

Having brought in Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez since their last bid for McTominay was rejected by Manchester United, the Hammers’ interest may have faded, as has the interest from Newcastle United and Inter Milan.

West Ham are prioritising transfer moves for strikers and wingers as the window enters its last couple of weeks, as they want to bring in more firepower after strengthening other areas of the squad already in recent days with the aforementioned midfield signings on top of a deal for Konstantinos Mavropanos.

Manchester United had intended on selling McTominay to free up funds for investment in other midfield targets, notably the Moroccan 2022 World Cup star Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina, but their £40million asking price was deemed too high.

The report states that it remains to be seen whether or not United would accept a cut-price deal for the Scottish international, but any drop in his price tag may have tempted West Ham to finally make another move for the midfielder David Moyes is a big fan of.
