West Ham United transfer news as Maxwel Cornet named one to watch on deadline day

West Ham winger Maxwel Cornet is a player to “keep an eye on” on transfer deadline day, according to BBC Sport journalist Shamoon Hafez.

The journalist reported for BBC Sport on Friday (1 September) that the 26-year-old could make a loan switch to Premier League rivals Everton.

Cornet has previously played under Toffees manager Sean Dyche, working with the boss during his one season at Burnley.

“There are suggestions the Toffees will look to make a loan move for West Ham winger Maxwel Cornet, who played for Dyche at Burnley, but there is nothing concrete on that at the moment,” Hafez wrote for BBC Sport.

“One to keep an eye on.”

Farewell?

Cornet is clearly surplus to requirements at the London Stadium, having largely watched on from the bench this season, and indeed when he was fit last season.

But that could all change when the Hammers get their Europa League campaign underway, with Hammers boss David Moyes needing as many players as possible in order to compete successfully on all fronts.

That was an issue last season as the club lifted the Europa Conference League trophy but struggled in the Premier League.

And things will only get tougher this time around given the step up in European competition, meaning Cornet will not be allowed to leave.

If he can stay fit, the winger can definitely provide a great attacking option from the bench domestically, and from the start in Europe as the likes of Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen get some time off the pitch. But Dyche may really push for the player, who scored nine goals from his 28 appearances for the Clarets.
