West Ham United transfer news as Lyon want to sign Said Benrahma and Nayef Aguerd, contact made already

Lyon are interested in signing West Ham United duo Said Benrahma and Nayef Aguerd in the January transfer window, according to L’Equipe.

The reputable French news outlet (8 December) shares that the Ligue 1 club have received approval from DNCG to go on a transfer blitz to rebuild their squad as they look to get out of the relegation drop zone where they currently sit bottom in 18th.

It is reported that Lyon have identified Benrahma and Aguerd as possible targets ahead of the January window and have been given €50m (£43million) to spend, however, any deal for both West Ham players will be “difficult” to do.

L’Equipe claim that contact has been made with Benrahma but it could prove difficult to persuade him to join a relegation battle.

Aguerd a no-go-zone

Like many other clubs in the Premier League, West Ham United will need to sell some of their marketable stars if they are to fund moves to address some pressing areas of their squad.

Right now, a striker is of major concern for Moyes given Michail Antonio and Danny Ings’ struggles at the London Stadium currently, hence their desperate alternative in utilising Jarrod Bowen as the main man – a decision which has proven fruitful so far.

However, signing a striker or even a reputable or consistent goalscorer is incredibly difficult so there are certainly no guarantees but the Hammers will be busy with several sales and Benrahma is certainly one of the most likely.

The Algerian international has become an unfortunate fringe player under Moyes, given his under-par performances and lack of consistency this season and it’s unclear he’ll be around beyond January.

Whether he’d be content with joining Lyon right now is unlikely given their torrid position in Ligue 1. But one thing is guaranteed, West Ham United will be willing to listen to offers for the Algerian.

With regards to Aguerd, the Moroccan is of incredible importance to Moyes and the whole club. In January at least, the former Rennes man is a no-go-zone.
