West Ham United transfer news as Gianluca Scamacca twist is terrible insult for Roma and Inter Milan
West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca’s London Stadium exit has taken another twist with Atalanta passing Inter Milan and Roma as favourites in the hunt for his signature, according to Goal.
The Italian website reported on Wednesday (2 August) that Atalanta has leapfrogged the other two sides in the pursuit of the 24-year-old, in what would be a “terrible insult” to both clubs if they are to lose out on the Irons’ striker.
Scamacca has been open about his desire to return to Italy this summer having struggled in his first season in England, with Roma his preferred destination. But Jose Mourinho’s side are yet to make a concrete push to sign the striker, seemingly leaving Inter with a free run for his signature before Atalanta registered an interest.

However, Atalanta, who are set to have plenty of money to spend as Rasmus Hojlund is expected to sign for Manchester United and the Nerazzuri of Bergamo believe Scamacca would “complete” their attack alongside El Bilial Toure.
Let bidding commence
This situation is probably as beneficial to West Ham as it could be. It becomes a lot easier to sell a player for the price that you want when many clubs are interested, especially when they all operate in the same division and will be fighting with one another for European football.
All three Italian teams need a striker and the Irons have one that is desperate for a move back to his homeland. All the power lies in East London and therefore the Irons are much more likely to get the fee they deserve now multiple clubs are vying for Scamacca’s signature.

West Ham are looking to reinvest any money earned this summer between now and the end of the transfer window, so it is only natural that they will look to the highest bidder in an attempt to have a larger pool of fund to dip into when buying players, it is now down to Inter, Roma and Atalanta to get bidding.
What does remain frustrating is the fact that no matter what fee is acquired this summer, it will almost definitely be less than what was paid only 12 months ago. All in all this entire investment feels like a wasted opportunity for both Scamacca and West Ham.
Hopefully, however the money is reinvested this summer, it will carry more success.
