West Ham United transfer news as Gianluca Scamacca price already set

West Ham have put a £22million price tag on Gianluca Scamacca already ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Il Giorno.

Atalanta are said to be very interested in bringing the Italian international striker back to his homeland just one year after he moved from Serie A to the Premier League for a fee of £35million.

The Bergamo based club have earmarked Scamacca as a potential reinforcement for their team with Duván Zapata and Rasmus Højlund both linked with summer exits.

The 24-year old has registered just three goals from 16 league appearances in his debut season at the London Stadium, much to the disappointment of many.

His time at the Hammers up to now has been blighted by injury and an inability to find the required form for David Moyes’ side, as the season continues to progress.

What the player wants

Much will depend on which division West Ham are playing in next season, when it comes to the future of Scamacca and as well as several others.

Relegation to the Championship will force the hand of the club to go in a different direction with the squad, as well as having a significant impact on potential transfer fees.

Moyes will be determined to secure his side’s top flight status and from there, the club can plan for next season, with or without the Italian striker. If such a bid from Atalanta was to materialise, it would represent a big call for the club.

Take the money and run, albeit at a loss, and reinvest in another option or wait on the Rome-born player to properly hit the heights. There are no guarantees either way so a lot will depend on what Scamacca wants.

Does he have the hunger and ability to carve out a career in the Premier League or would an early return to Italy be a better compromise? We will find out in the near future.
