West Ham United are not set to receive any bonus payments for Gianluca Scamacca following Atalanta's Champions League qualification, according to Hammers News.

The former Hammers striker left the London Stadium last summer after only a season in East London, having only scored three Premier League goals following his big-money move from Sassuolo.

While Fabrizio Romano has previously suggested that the Irons sold the 25-year-old for a fixed price, a spokesman close to the Irons has confirmed that to be the case following Atlanta's Europa League win over Bayer Leverkusen.

As quoted by Hammers News (23 May) he said: "Sadly, no, we don’t have any bonus payments due as a result of Gianluca Scamacca qualifying for the Champions League."

It is easy in hindsight to view the omission of potential add-ons in Scamacca's sale as an oversight from the Hammers, but few would have expected the Italian striker to win a European title in his first season away from the London Stadium.

Following his poor first season in the Premier League, the Irons were simply desperate to get Scamacca off of their books and they would have just been happy to have earned a considerable transfer fee for his services.

Julen Lopetegui is set to be the next West Ham manager.

It would have been a nice bonus for Julen Lopetegui if he had a bit more money to spend during his first summer as West Ham manager, but it seems as though he will still be backed by the Irons board when the window opens.

A new striker has to be a priority because there has been a reliance on Michail Antonio and the goals of Jarrod Bowen in the last few years. Who that will be remains to be seen, but the Hammers will already have some targets in mind.
