West Ham United transfer news as four approaches made already

West Ham United have already made approaches to sign four new players to replenish their first-team squad this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams, Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, Juventus’ Denis Zakaria and Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes are the quartet being targeted by David Moyes’ side.

The Hammers are set to have a healthy transfer budget once the sale of Declan Rice is confirmed, with the Englishman close to joining Arsenal in a total package worth £105million.

TalkSPORT reported on Thursday (29 June), that the Hammers are ready to step up their interest in Barnes after the Rice transfer is confirmed, while Ward-Prowse is set to cost in the region of £50million.

Busy

With Declan Rice no longer in West Ham’s plans heading into next season, David Moyes needs new signings, and fast.

Currently, the Scot only has two out-and-out central midfielders to call upon – Tomas Soucek and Flynn Downes – so approaches for Adams, Zakaria, and Ward-Prowse make plenty of sense.

The sooner that the Rice deal is completed, the sooner Moyes can press on with making concrete offers for the aforementioned quartet.

What is striking about the four names above is that they are all proven in the Premier League, something that was abundantly lacking with the club’s transfer strategy last season.

Despite spending in excess of £150million, the likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Lucas Paqueta, Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd had never kicked a ball in the Premier League – and this was telling as the club ambled towards a 14th-place Premier League finish.

This feels like a fresh approach to transfer dealings from West Ham, and hopefully, it can bear success heading into the future.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made a move for Denis Zakaria amid a rival offer in France.
