West Ham United transfer news as David Moyes makes decision on new forward, outgoings mooted

West Ham may not sign a new forward in this transfer window as David Moyes only wants to bring in a quality addition, according to Sean Whetstone.

The 6foot2 editor tweeted on 31 August that there is a “good chance” the club won’t add to their forward options despite being linked with a number of players this summer.

He said the Irons boss is only interested in adding quality and that he will not sanction a panic buy just to fill a place in his squad, while up to two fringe players could yet leave the London Stadium.

Mistake

This could be a huge mistake by Moyes if his decision leads to the club not improving its strike force and that catches up with them across the season.

While West Ham have had a solid start to the campaign, they struggled in front of goal last year and that was before the departure of Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta.

The Hammers haven’t brought anyone in to replace the Italian and, if Michail Antonio gets injured, that could land them in deep trouble again as they look to finish higher in the Premier League and compete well in Europe again.

The feeling at the end of the last campaign was that we really couldn’t afford to be left short up top again, but with just a day left in the window and Moyes seemingly not too worried about strengthening, that is where we could find ourselves.

The Scot has earned the trust of the board and the fans over the past few years, but this just feels like it could be an error by the manager as we are too reliant on an ageing forward in Antonio, who is known for picking up injuries.

In other West Ham news, the club have turned their attentions to a £51million-rated forward.
