West Ham United transfer news as club ready to move for Kalvin Phillips and Conor Gallagher

West Ham United are ready to revive their transfer interest in Conor Gallagher and Kalvin Phillips, according to the Evening Standard.

The Sun reported that the Hammers made a January deadline-day loan offer for Manchester City midfielder Phillips, whilst David Moyes’ side were one of many clubs interested in Gallagher’s services during the winter window. [Alex Crook]

The Evening Standard have now reported that both England internationals are seen as options to replace the outgoing Declan Rice in the summer transfer window.

“The Hammers have been long-term admirers of the England duo and their situations are being monitored, with both facing uncertain futures at their current clubs,” they wrote.

“The pair are on a shortlist of leading contenders to replace Rice, who will be sold at the end of the season as he effectively enters the final two years of his contract having turned down several offers of a lucrative new deal.

“No formal approach has been made for either player but, provided they retain their Premier League status, West Ham are expected to act on indication that either could be available.”

Great options

Both Phillips and Gallagher are Premier League-proven players and look like great options to replace Rice.

The Hammers captain is all but out of the door, so getting a succession plan in place is necessary – that is if they maintain their Premier League status.

Due to the lack of game time that both Phillips and Gallagher have been awarded this season, both players may be eager to ply their trade elsewhere next season.

And with West Ham United likely to get at least £70million and possibly above £100milllion for the sale of Rice in the summer, they are likely to be able to offer the most lucrative wage packages and transfer fees to both Chelsea and Manchester City.

Phillips would be the number one target out of the pair due to the gaping hole Rice is expected to leave in Moyes’ midfield, but Gallagher’s energy and industrious work rate may also allow Lucas Paqueta some more freedom in the final third.

However, all of this transfer activity would hinge on West Ham United maintaining their Premier League status this season.
