West Ham United transfer news as club face raid on stars if relegation occurs

West Ham United stars Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Gianluca Scamacca would all have “suitors” if the club were relegated from the Premier League, according to The Athletic.

The report claims that West Ham need the Premier League more than most and their talented squad could be “quickly dismantled” after a drop to the Championship.

Such sales would cover the inevitable operating losses of going down a division, however, this is a picture Hammers will want to avoid thinking about.

“West Ham, more than most in the lower reaches, need Premier League football. Their 60,000-capacity London Stadium home, regularly filled in the top flight, was not converted for the Championship and a talented squad would be quickly dismantled in the wake of relegation,” as quoted by The Athletic. “At least there are sales to be made to cover the inevitable operating losses. Declan Rice, the England midfielder, is expected to move on for a potential nine-figure sum with or without survival, while others, like Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca would also have suitors.”

Tragic scenes.

Relegation would be an absolutely terrible scenario for West Ham when you think about the talent that could be lost by dropping down to the Championship.

There would simply be no chance the likes of Paqueta, Bowen and Scamacca stay at the club and literally zero chance of Rice being at the London Stadium for that either.

It’s a scary prospect and one that could genuinely happen to this talented squad if they continue to sleepwalk into the depths of the dreaded drop zone.

Nevertheless, the season can still be salvaged and the way West Ham have been performing in Europe, especially yesterday evening highlights they have more than enough fight left in the tank.

Many will argue that David Moyes is the clear problem in all of this and they wouldn’t be completely wrong, his stale and weak tactics are doing West Ham no favours right now.

Would a loss against Aston Villa be the final straw? Perhaps, but something suggests the West Ham board will stick with the Scot until the end of the campaign, which is worrying.
