West Ham United transfer news as £30m AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana eyed

West Ham United have been joined by Arsenal and Newcastle United in their pursuit of Youssouf Fofana this summer, according to L’Equipe.

The AS Monaco midfielder, who has been capped ten times for the France international side, is valued at around £30million and is seen as a potential replacement for the exit-bound Declan Rice.

The 24-year-old will be allowed to leave the Principality this summer should a reasonable offer arrive, however, no club is in a hurry to complete a deal, and no concrete moves have been initiated yet.

Serie A sides Inter Milan and AS Roma have also been linked with a move for the former Strasbourg midfielder, who netted two goals and provided two assists from 36 outings last season.

Strong option

David Moyes is likely to have money to spend this summer once the departure of Rice is confirmed this summer, with at least one midfield replacement required.

At the moment, the Scot only has Flynn Downes and Tomas Soucek as out-and-out central midfield options, so a move for Fofana certainly makes plenty of sense.

Any player who can force their way into Didier Deschamps’ national side will certainly possess an abundance of talent, and the Frenchman now looks destined to move to the Premier League and take the next step in his career.

The problem is that the Gunners and Newcastle, who can both offer Champions League football, are also in for the 24-year-old and represent seriously strong competition. This is even without the two Italian giants who have also registered an interest.

This is a potential transfer that should fill West Ham United fans with excitement, but there is still a long way to go before even considering the Hammers as frontrunners for Fofana’s signature.
