Amara Nallo already on his way to stardom with Liverpool after West Ham United departure

Amara Nallo continues to impress for new club Liverpool following his decision to quit West Ham in the summer.

The 16-year-old decided to swap clubs in August in what was considered a big blow for the Irons, who thought highly of the defender.

Liverpool have taken little time to realise what a talent they have on their hands, as Nallo is already a regular for the Under-21s side.

Indeed, despite his young age, Nallo has now started each of the Reds’ age-grade side’s past four matches, coming up against opponents far older.

What makes that all the more impressive in the view of Liverpool U21s boss Barry Lewtas is that he is doing so while playing at centre-back.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website (23 October), Lewtas said: “He’s just 16. I don’t think we’ve ever asked a lad that young to play at centre-back against senior opposition.

“He should be really proud of his performance. I think the main thing for Amara is he played ever so well but he didn’t let any kind of mistakes or momentum shifts in the game affect him. He didn’t play like a 16-year-old, that’s for sure.”

Lewtas was speaking on the back of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Benfica in the Premier League International Cup on Sunday (22 October), so already Nallo is being given opportunities in big matches.

Many wondered if departing London Stadium was a wise choice, but it is hard to argue that being the case on the basis of the past couple of months since his exit.

West Ham have a rich history of bringing through talented youngsters, but Nallo is not alone in deciding a move away from West Ham is better for his future in recent times.

If the English youngster does go on to have a successful career at the highest level, then West Ham will no doubt be reminded about another one of their talents that got away.

In other West Ham news, David Moyes suffered another transfer blow with news that emerged on Sunday (22 October).
