Dean Jones has revealed that West Ham have scouts in France as Montpellier striker Akon Adams is a potential target during the January transfer window.

The Nigerian youth international has impressed since moving to the French league this summer from Lillestrom in Norway, scoring seven times in 17 appearances, bagging three braces already.

The Football Transfer Correspondent believes the Hammers have "scouts working extensively" in such an area, to discover any diamonds in the rough.

"It's a name that keeps cropping up and, because of his decent goals record in France this season, I would find it surprising if they weren't keeping an eye on him," Jones said to GIVEMESPORT on Saturday (6 January).

"They have scouts working extensively in the area of Europe and their job is to uncover exciting transfer targets that might not quite be as firmly on the radar as of other Premier League clubs.”

Good for all parties

Adams is an incredible talent, bursting onto the scene in Norway as a young striker and making the Norwegian Eliteserien look like a playground.

The now-23-year-old netted 25 goals in 46 appearances between December 2021 and August 2023, even netting a hat-trick during the 2022/23 season, earning himself a transfer to a much bigger league.

Not only did he make an incredible transfer for himself, he opened his Montpellier account with a debut brace against Le Havre. The forward then added a third in the French side's second game of the season against Lyon, finishing off an impressive 4-1 victory.

However, the goals have dried up as Montpellier's form has dipped, with the side currently sitting in 12th in Ligue 1, with just four wins from 17 matches. The London Stadium could offer the Nigerian a potential out from a tough situation and it would be a transfer to suit both parties.

With the recent news of Michail Antonio's injury setback, as per The Telegraph, and Danny Ings' incompetence on the pitch, Adams is a vital target if the Hammers are to meet their aims for this season.
