West Ham United told former top target now theirs for bargain fee

West Ham United need multiple quality signings this summer if they are to avoid a relegation battle next season.

Potter has struggled since his appointment, and the Hammers look set for a disappointing end to the season.

Fears are now growing that the London club could face relegation next campaign if drastic changes are not made.

Therefore, Potter is planning on a squad overhaul this summer, with West Ham now considering a move for former target Breel Embolo.

West Ham consider a move for ‘cut price’ Embolo

Reinforcements in attack are no doubt needed at West Ham.

Niclas Füllkrug’s fitness has not been reliable since his move to the London Stadium. 

On top of this, Jarrod Bowen could also be sold this summer as rumours regarding the West Ham captain’s future refuse to disperse. 

Therefore, according to GiveMeSport (21 May), Potter is considering a move for Monaco’s Embolo.

West Ham have been linked to Embolo in the past, but the report states that the French side are prepared to sanction his departure for a “bargain fee”.

The Swiss international has fallen down the pecking order since Thilo Kehrer’s arrival, and now only has one year left on his contract.

West Ham are long-term admirers of Embolo, and the London club are currently on the fence about including him on the shortlist. 

Embolo would be found out in the Premier League 

Simply put, Embolo is no longer good enough to compete at Premier League level. The striker has only scored eight goals in his past two seasons. 

With the 28-year-old struggling to find the net in Ligue 1, it is unlikely that he will be effective in the English top flight.

If West Ham want to finally put their striker issues, they cannot waste their time by signing a player who is now past it. 

Hopefully, Potter will realise this and opt against putting him on the shortlist for the upcoming transfer window.
