West Ham United told chances of Jacob Greaves transfer from Hull City

Hull City are keen to keep Jacob Greaves for at least one more season amid interest from West Ham United, sources have told GiveMeSport.

The online outlet reported [13 June] that, while the Hammers could potentially look at the 23-year-old as a defensive addition this summer, Hull want to keep him for another season.

Greaves, who brandished the captain’s armband towards the end of the season, made 43 Championship appearances, prompting the Premier League side to take notice.

Could West Ham United seal a transfer for Jacob Greaves this summer?

The centre-back experienced a hugely impressive season at The MKM Stadium as Hull narrowly missed out on the Championship play-off spots, eventually leading to Liam Rosenior’s exit as manager.

Greaves notched two goals and four assists, while also helping to keep 11 clean sheets for the Tigers in an eventful Championship campaign, though his 12 yellow cards may come as a concern.

It is a huge step up from the Championship to the Premier League, but with West Ham missing out on a European spot this season, Greaves will be given an opportunity to adapt to the top tier.

The centre-back berths are certainly one aspect of the current squad that Julen Lopetegui must address in the summer transfer market, with David Moyes’ side only conceding fewer goals than the bottom three teams in 2023-24.

Angelo Ogbonna’s exit has been confirmed, leaving Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Konstantinos Mavropanos as the defensive options, though any one of these could leave before the window closes.

This would suggest that Greaves is an ideal transfer target this summer, especially with how he performed for Hull in the Championship, having made 177 appearances since June 2020.

While the player’s current club would prefer to keep him for another campaign, and hopefully secure promotion with them, the pull of the Premier League could be too much for him.

In other West Ham news, a £33.7m update has emerged as the Hammers have made contact to sign the best dribbler in a top five European league this summer.
