West Ham United to revive interest in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire – ESPN

West Ham are expected to revive their interest in signing Manchester United captain Harry Maguire this summer, according to ESPN (17 May).

The Hammers are keen to bolster their defensive options this summer and made an enquiry about signing the England international in the January window but were knocked back.

However the Old Trafford club are now open to his departure at the end of the season and West Ham are set to be involved in the chase.

West Ham have had a lot of issues in defence this season whether it be with injuries, poor form or a mixture of both.

Nayef Aguerd has been a good signing but has suffered with injuries, while Kurt Zouma has continued to struggle with his own injury problems despite his excellent performances.

Angelo Ogbonna is ageing and out of contract, so a new central defender is most certainly needed and while Maguire has struggled for form at Manchester United, he would fit in well with West Ham.

We play a more defensive style of football that would play more to his strengths, and we’ve seen with England how good he can be when that is the case.

He would also bring leadership and experience to the team, and if the asking price is good then he would be a great signing to improve us for next season and help us push up the table.
