West Ham set to pay Leeds United millions more as new Summerville clause emerges

West Ham United could hand over a further £9million to Leeds United in add-ons for Crysencio Summerville, according to Sean Whetstone.

Writing via the West Ham Football account on X [31 July], Hammers reporter Whetstone confirmed a five-year deal is in place for the Dutchman.

Summerville is set to undergo a medical on Thursday (1 August) and, all going to plan, West Ham will hand over an initial £25m to Leeds.

A further £5m payment has been included as part of the deal should various clauses be triggered, while West Ham will pay another £4m if Summerville is capped by the Netherlands senior side.

West Ham land Crysencio Summerville bargain deal

On the face of it, paying £25m for a player who lit up the Championship last season and also has Premier League quality is a bargain fee.

In fact, even if the price climbs as high as £34m with the various adds-one, the Hammers have still got themselves a great deal.

Summerville will provide some further competition in the final third, with West Ham’s attacking midfield now as good as any in the top flight.

There is the small matter of signing a new centre-forward, but even that seems to be taken care of as Niclas Fullkrug is slowly edging closer to joining [Gianluca Di Marzio, 31 July].

While the transfer business has been thin on the ground of late, these two deals, plus any more in the pipeline such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, show the future is very exciting for the Irons.

A team cannot be judged on its transfer business until the window is closed, and if these few deals go through then it would have been a very good one from the Irons’ perspective.

In other West Ham news, a date has been given for when Summerville could make his debut for the club.
