West Ham United to open talks to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin in coming days

West Ham are set to open talks to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin on loan in the coming says, according to The Sunday Mirror.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on 29 May (page 77) that the Hammers are keen on signing the 23-year-old Ukranian on a temporary basis but Real Madrid want him to get guaranteed game-time.

It is understood that a loan-to-buy deal could be on the cards as long as there’s a buy-back clause included in the deal for Madrid.

The newspaper adds that Lunin is valued at £13million by Real Madrid, who seem as though they expect the Ukraine international to have a big future ahead of him.

Another goalkeeper?

Lukasz Fabianski will be at the London Stadium next season and there has been plenty of talks about Alphonse Areola’s loan stay being made permanent.

If Areola does join on a full-time basis then there’ll be no need to bring in Lunin as well.

However, it looks as though the Hammers are eyeing up Lunin in case they’re unable to agree a full-time deal to make Areola’s move to London permanent.

Lunin has barely played in the last couple of seasons for Real Madrid so it’s tough to get a gauge on how good he is.

He played just four times in all competitions for the Spanish giants this season and in those games, they won two, drew one and lost one.

Lunin was on the bench on Saturday night (28 May) when Madrid won the Champions League title and was on the bench for most of the season behind Thibaut Courtois in La Liga.

He’s not going to get game-time in Spain but he could get more game-time in England should he join us and Areola opts to stay at PSG or move elsewhere.

In other West Ham news, the Irons are in advanced talks to seal their first major new signing of the summer transfer window.
