West Ham United to monitor transfer market for weeks before Gianluca Scamacca sale

West Ham United are set to monitor the market over the coming weeks before considering the sale of Gianluca Scamacca, according to Corrieredellosport.

Fabrizio Romano reported (17 June) that Roma had agreed personal terms with the Italian international but that the Hammers have no intention of letting him leave on a loan as things stand.

The new report states that the Italian side are not the only club in the market for Scamaccca and that West Ham are expecting to receive some permanent offers for his services.

The 24-year-old wants a return to Serie A this summer, and his agent has held talks with Roma director Tiago Pinto.

Clever

Although Roma look extremely interested in signing Scamacca this summer, it can’t do any harm for West Ham United to try and spark a bidding war.

With other European suitors still in for his signature, the Hammers can try and drive the price up as much as possible before sanctioning his exit just a year after joining the club.

It is clear to all those involved in the club that the Italian international doesn’t fulfil the needs of a striker in a David Moyes team. Even fellow teammate Michail Antonio spoke out about the striker’s failure to live up to the big-money expectations and how his style of play doesn’t suit the single striker option that the Scot enjoys playing with.

The January decision to sign Danny Ings was an obvious indication that the club weren’t happy with what they paid for, and his tally of three Premier League goals simply hasn’t been good enough.

West Ham should explore the market, but they must still ensure that they don’t get too greedy and miss out on Roma’s initial interest.
