West Ham United to abandon move for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca

West Ham United are ready to abandon their move for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca and focus purely on Armando Broja according to Calciomercato.

Sky Sports Gianluca Di Marzio revealed (via his personal website) on July 12 that West Ham had tabled a £33.7m bid for the 23-year-old striker.

However, The Athletic reported (18 July) that West Ham are closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea youngster Broja as David Moyes looks to bolster his striking options.

It has since been suggested by Italian news outlet Calciomercato on Wednesday 20 July that the Hammers are “determined” to take Broja and are ready to abandon their move for Scamacca.

One or the other

Even the most optimistic of West Ham fans probably saw signing both players as slightly too good to be true and it is clear that Moyes wants Premier League-proven Broja to be his main man in the 2021/22 season.

Signing both is still not completely out of the question for the Hammers moving forward, but it appears that all attention is currently focused on talks with Chelsea over trying to secure a deal for the Albanian striker.

Scamacca would’ve been an exciting addition for the Hammers with the Italy international scoring 16 goals for Sassuolo in the Serie A in the 2021/22 season.

The towering striker could well have been a great fit for the Hammers’ style of play and would’ve been a good player for the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma to play off of.

However, it appears that once Moyes wants a player he is very much single-minded and focused on that one signing.

West Ham have had plenty of options to choose from in attacking areas but Moyes has remained focused on Jesse Lingard throughout the whole summer.

Broja seems a similar situation, with a move for Scamacca potentially a backup move in case any complications arose in a transfer for the Albanian striker.
