West Ham United target Pedro Guilherme as £25.6million update emerges from Flamengo
Pedro Guilherme’s recent performances for Flamengo have drawn interest from West Ham ahead of the summer transfer window, according to CalcioMercato.
The Italian news outlet reported [12 March] that the Hammers have joined the race for the 26-year-old, battling Chelsea, Aston Villa and Fulham for his signature.
It is understood that Flamengo have set a £25.6million price tag after rejecting a £15.4million offer from Benfica last summer, also wanting to add a sell-on clause in any future contract.
Will West Ham United target Pedro Guilherme in the summer?
The striker situation at the London Stadium is one of the most worrying aspects of David Moyes’ squad, other than needing a brand-new centre-back in the summer.
Due to Michail Antonio’s injury record this season, Jarrod Bowen has been utilised as an out-and-out striker. And although he boasts 14 goals in 27 Premier League matches, that is not a long-term fix.
Danny Ings scored his first goal of the season as West Ham drew 2-2 with Burnley on Sunday 10 March, netting for the first time in a competitive match since April 2023.
Considering Pedro’s record in Brazil, the 26-year-old could present Moyes with a cheap alternative up front, with a disappointing spell at Fiorentina sandwiched between impressive spells at Fluminense and Flamengo.
The forward scored 31 goals in 93 appearances at the beginning of his career before ending back at Flamengo, where he has 114 goals and 24 assists in 229 appearances.
With eight goals and one assist in eight league matches in the current campaign, Pedro shows no signs of slowing down and is continuing his fine form in Brazil.
Though signing Pedro in the summer transfer window could be seen as a huge risk, there is no doubt that the Brazilian is a very talented player and could thrive in the Premier League if given an opportunity.
