West Ham United eye Fenerbahce ace Jayden Oosterwolde as second summer signing
West Ham have registered an interest in Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde ahead of the summer transfer window opening, according to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.
The Sports Digitale journalist reported via his personal X account [13 June] that the Hammers are monitoring the 23-year-old’s current situation in Turkey.
Oosterwolde made 20 league starts as Fenerbahce narrowly missed out on the Turkish Super Lig title by three points to Galatasaray last season, helping his club to win 99 points and losing just one match.
West Ham United want Jayden Oosterwolde in summer transfer window
Having previously been linked with Gent’s Archie Brown, it appears that Julen Lopetegui is targeting a new left-back at London Stadium.
While Emerson Palmieri has cemented his spot in the starting XI, David Moyes continuously had an issue if either the Brazilian or Vladimir Coufal were unavailable.
Though Aaron Cresswell has penned a new one-year deal with the Hammers, taking his stay until the end of the 2024/25 campaign, the squad must prepare for an exodus of players at some point, and he is likely to be included.
The 34-year-old struggled at times and only made four Premier League appearances, suggesting that Lopetegui will look to much younger options to provide cover in the full-back positions.
Signing Oosterwolde would also provide competition for Emerson, who notched one goal and two assists in the Premier League this past season.
While the Dutchman failed to get on the scoresheet in the league, he seems to hold plenty of potential, which could see him secure a move to England this summer.
Lopetegui is likely to change the whole defensive unit, with Angelo Ogbonna already leaving while Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma have been linked with exits.
Though Oosterwolde is primarily a left-back, he is capable of deputising in the middle of the defence, on the left or right-hand side, making him an ideal suitor for a West Ham move.
In other West Ham news, one player’s exit from the club is now more likely after his recent display.
