Man United set to land Noussair Mazraoui as West Ham United advance for Wan-Bissaka

West Ham United are advancing in talks to sign Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to Sky Sports News.

Reporter Melissa Reddy said via the broadcaster’s transfer blog (30 July, 8:20pm) that talks between the clubs are progressing as Man United pursue a deal for Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui.

Wan-Bissaka has spent five years at Old Trafford but has long been out of favour.

Reddy said: “Talks between West Ham and Manchester United over Aaron Wan-Bissaka are progressing at a rapid pace. When an agreement is reached there, it would finance a deal for Mazraoui.”

Wan-Bissaka signed for Man United for £50millions from Crystal Palace in 2019, and having instantly impressed his new teammates – Scott McTominay in particular – he has fallen out of favour.

“It’s absolutely ridiculous the way it looks like he’s diving in, but he’s so controlled in the way that he does it,” McTominay said of Wan-Bissaka to Manchester Evening News in July 2019.

West Ham to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United

West Ham agreed on a deal with Bayern Munich for Mazraoui last week (BILD, 26 July, pg. 13) and now look set to help Man United fund a move for the Algerian by acquiring Wan-Bissaka.

Julen Lopetegui has been in the market for a new right-back following the departure of Ben Johnson and, despite the failed move for Mazraoui, are finally set to land an upgrade on Vladimir Coufal.

Wan-Bissaka made 30 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions last term and played in both full-back positions to accommodate Diogo Dalot.

It is an astute deal for a side looking to regain their spot in the European places next season, and with only 12 months left on his Old Trafford contract, he would be brought in for a modest fee.

The 26-year-old is entering his prime years and has been a regular in the Premier League for six years, while also bringing Champions League experience to the Hammers.

West Ham are arguably getting the better deal, as Mazraoui will require time to settle into life in England whereas Wan-Bissaka knows the demands of performing in the English top-flight.

Lopetegui is building an exciting and Premier League-proven defence at the London Stadium, as Wan-Bissaka is set to join Max Kilman as the latest homegrown recruit.

In other West Ham news, Lopetegui is thrilled with Steidten’s transfer choice at West Ham United.
