West Ham United table fresh offer for Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri – David Ornstein

West Ham have tabled a fresh offer to Sevilla to sign striker Youssef En-Nesyri on loan in January, according to a new report from David Ornstein.

The Hammers have been linked with the signing of the Morocco international for the last 12 months, after they had a £30m bid rejected last January.

But they have now returned with a new loan bid to try and solve their goal issues again after his stand-out performances in the World Cup, with The Athletic reporting (9 January) that the clubs are in talks over a deal.

The Athletic understands they have made a fresh approach for En-Nesyri, who started all seven games and scored two goals as his country made a surprise run to the semi-finals at the recent World Cup,” they wrote (9 January).

“This time, the initial proposal is to take the 25-year-old on loan and while that might not entice Sevilla, if it was to include an option or obligation to buy at the end of the loan there is a chance it could carry greater appeal.”

Interesting

The interest in En-Nesyri made sense last year when West Ham were looking for cover for Michail Antonio, but now we have Gianluca Scamacca.

The Italian has struggled to hit the heights he did in Serie A, only netting five goals this season, but he is still the club’s top scorer in all competitions.

West Ham

The team has been struggling in its entirety and a lack of goals is only a problem when you’re in a relegation battle because the team is playing poorly, and not because the team has a lack of goals in it.

Jarrod Bowen, Scamacca, Antonio, Said Benrahma and Lucas Paqueta are all capable of chipping in with goals throughout the season and there is more than enough quality there where En-Nesyri shouldn’t be a priority.

But he showed during the World Cup that he is capable of shining even in teams that are set up to defend primarily, so he would be a welcome addition if the club can sort out a deal with Sevilla.
