West Ham United table bid for Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards, talks on for final fee
West Ham have tabled an opening offer for Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards to sign him before Friday’s deadline, reports Nizaar Kinsella.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (30 August), the Evening Standard journalist reports that the Hammers have tabled their opening offer for the 20-year-old defender.
The two clubs are now in talks over a final fee, with Friday’s transfer deadline at 11pm looming large to get a deal done in time.
“West Ham have made a first offer to sign Ronnie Edwards, now in talks with Peterborough over the final fee,” he wrote.
Talent
West Ham have been very good at identifying quality young talent in recent years to bring in, but Edwards would be one of the rare instances where they come in to help the first-team immediately.
Edwards has impressed greatly since coming through the academy at Barnet, and would come into the first-team to compete for a spot in the team alongside the likes of Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, Angelo Ogbonna and Dinos Mavropanos.

There has been plenty of interest in his services so the Hamemrs are likely to need to push through a deal quickly, not just because of the deadline but also because of rivals for his signature.
There’s been no mention of a fee so it’s unclear how far the club are willing to go to get a deal done, and also how far apart the two clubs are in valuation.
But this is clearly something to keep an eye on in the coming days, with the Hammers keen to bolster the squad.
