West Ham United table £21m+ offer for Genoa star Morten Frendrup, club response shared

West Ham United have had a £21.8million offer for Genoa star Morten Frendrup rejected, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

Writing on his personal X account (29 June), the journalist reports that the Hammers tabled the bid for the Demark midfielder, but were told that the offer wasn’t big enough to please the Serie A side.

In fact Genoa have no intention of selling Frendrup this summer unless a “big offer” comes in for him, leaving Tim Steidten back at the drawing board to strengthen the squad.

West Ham United need midfield reinforcements

West Ham’s current midfield options are slim, but with high quality, and new faces are necessary in order to bolster the squad for Julen Lopetegui.

Edson Alvarez is suffering with a hamstring injury [Fox Sports, 27 June] picked up during Copa America, while James Ward-Prowse and Tomas Soucek will both be on the wrong side of 30 by the time the 2024/25 campaign ends.

It seems likely that Flynn Downes will be allowed to return to Southampton after a successful loan move, and with Kalvin Phillips back at Manchester City, a move for Frendrup could be the ideal solution.

Having been described as a “superb talent” by scout Jacek Kulig, his defensive capabilities would really improve the squad and help the manager to implement his style on the squad quicker.

If £21.8million isn’t enough to get a deal done then Steidten needs to make a decision quickly on if he is going to return quickly with a new bid or move on to new targets.

In other West Ham news, the club have opened talks to sign an “Outstanding” La Masia graduate.
