West Ham United star Emerson Palmieri ‘would be happy’ to quit London Stadium amid Roma interest

Roma are considering West Ham left-back Emerson Palmieri as a possible replacement for Leonardo Spinazzola should he leave in the summer, according to Il Romanista.

The Italian news outlet reported on 24 January that Roma are considering options from the Italian national team for new recruits, and it is said Emerson would be happy to return to his former club.

Emerson is hoping to be part of the Italy team selected for the European Championships this summer as they look to defend their title won at Wembley in 2021.

He has become vital

Emerson’s rise to becoming a star player in David Moyes’ team has directly coincided with the drop of Aaron Cresswell, which has allowed the Italian to cement himself as one of the key men at the London Stadium.

As a result, it seems unlikely that he would be allowed to leave the club in the summer, and if he did then the Hammers would have to begin work on a potential new arrival in his position.

Roma’s interest is no more developed than simply looking at the player as things stand, but if they capitalise on Spinazzola’s sale with a big-money move in the summer, it appears Emerson will be top of their list for replacements.

West Ham

The West Ham full-back spent three years at Roma before he was signed by Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea in 2018. His move to East London has been the most successful of his career, and his emergence as a starting player at the London Stadium makes it difficult to see him leaving.
