West Ham United stance on Kieran Trippier transfer after Aaron Wan-Bissaka medical delay

West Ham United remain interested in Kieran Trippier and Noussair Mazraoui as they wait to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist reported via X on Sunday (11 August) that the Hammers continue to hold an interest in the Newcastle United and Bayern Munich stars, despite closing in on a deal for Wan-Bissaka.

Julen Lopetegui’s side had agreed a deal to sign Mazraouir, but they pulled out to try and secure the Manchester United man instead, which led the Red Devils to pursue the Bayern man as a replacement.

Wan-Bissaka was expected to arrive in East London at 4pm on Sunday but his medical has now been delayed as Manchester United look to agree exit terms with the defender [Dharmseh Sheth, 11 August].

Will Kieran Tripper exit Newcastle amid West Ham transfer rumours?

West Ham remain confident that they will sign Wan-Bissaka this summer, but it is clear from Sheth’s latest update that Tim Steidten and his recruitment team are putting succession plans in place just in case the deal falls through.

The last thing the Irons want is to begin the season without options for Lopetegui to choose from. The former Real Madrid boss now has plenty of midfielders, attackers and centre-backs at his disposal, but he is lacking at fullback.

While he still has Vladimir Coufal to call upon who has impressed in a claret and blue shirt over the last few seasons, Lopetegui will want somebody to compete with the Czech international for the starting role.

Whether that be Wan-Bissaka, Mazraoui or Trippier, somebody will be playing at the London Stadium when the new season rolls around.

Hopefully, the Hammers will get the Wan-Bissaka deal over the line as he is quite clearly the Irons’ primary target. If not, it is good to know that Steidten and those around him have not put all their eggs in one basket.
