West Ham United stance emerges on Said Benrahma as Marseille to make fresh bid

West Ham are open to allowing Said Benrahma to leave the club in the January transfer window, according to Jack Rosser.

Writing on the Sun’s live transfer tracker on Wednesday (17 January, 09:25pm), the journalist said the Hammers are hoping to get more than £20million for the Algerian international this month, but that they are open to a loan move with an obligation-to-buy clause included.

He added that French club Marseille are expected to make a second offer for the 28-year-old winger after the Irons rejected a first bid, which was a loan with a view to a permanent move in the summer, hours before he was sent off in the 1-0 FA Cup defeat to Bristol City on Tuesday (16 January).

Let him go

It’s pretty clear that Benrahma isn’t remotely bothered about playing for West Ham anymore following his antics in the loss against Bristol City.

While the winger has put in some excellent performances since signing from Brentford in 2020, he’s also gone missing for large periods during that time and rarely turns up in the big moments.

It feels as though he’s never quite convinced David Moyes that he can be a consistent performer in the side, with the Hammers boss regularly appearing to be frustrated with him.

West Ham

It feels unlikely we would be able to get more than £20million for him in the January transfer window, but if a loan deal comes up and that money is offered as part of a permanent clause, then we should let him go.

It will mean we’re short on options on the left-hand side of the attack, but we’re not really losing out on too much following his performances at the London Stadium this season.
